My daughter lives in Pelham, Alabama, and I decided to take a break from my writing and visit her for a few weeks. I just sent a manuscript to my agent and am starting something new so thought it a good time to get away. Something is always going on at her house, and this time we are reupholstering a very large chair and ottoman. It was fun picking out the material but now the real work begins.

My online critique group has really slowed down.  Well, that’s what summers are for: hammocks in the shade, visits with family, and reading a good book someone else has written!

Florida Writers’ Conference

June 22nd, 2008

The Florida Writers Conference is an annual event here in the Sunshine State, and November is one of our nicest months.

This year the conference will offer quite a lineup of workshops, offering something for everyone. Subjects range from the craft of writing to marketing the book once it’s published. Manuscript critiques and appointments with agents are more of what the conference offers.

Click on the link for Florida Writers to the right of this page to go to their website and read more about the conference. See you there!

Apples and Storms

June 15th, 2008

June in Florida means daily thunderstorms. It’s our rainy season. My computer guru warned me against leaving my PC on when I hear thunder. He bought a boat from revenue he earned replacing hard drives sapped by lightning. So as an extra precaution, I unplug the phone line too.

This is why there is a conspicuous absence of Florida writers blogging or surfing the net this month; we are busy plugging and unplugging.

On a cheerier note, my apple tree if full of apples. Here, in the northern half of the state, we grow Golden Dorsett beside an Anna, to cross-pollinate. So far I’ve had two apple-thyme tarts from my tree (recipe from a French cookbook).

     Happy writing.
